Brussels, art perfume & music…
posted on October 25th, 2011 by Ormonde Jayne in Perfume
A recent trip to Brussels to visit Ormonde Jayne’s new point of sale at Senteurs d’Ailleurs has left me in love with this understated city!
Brussels is a breathtakingly quick high speed train journey from St Pancras station in London – one hour and 50 minutes! I am old enough to remember pre Eurostar and painfully slow ferry crossings & trains to Dover followed by long car journeys! But the Eurostar glides under the sea in no time straight into Place Stephanie in the heart of Brussels chic shopping district on Avenue Louise.

Senteurs d’Ailleurs opened their new perfumery in July & it is uber chic, elegant & extremely well designed as you can see from the photos. Everything is centred around the diamond motif which is incorporated into the bags, window shape & shelving inside the shop. And now Ormonde Jayne’s Perfume Portraits is also available in Brussels at Senteurs d’Ailleurs. For those of you that have not yet tried it and might be passing through Belgium soon, do try it out. Perfume Portraits has been designed by Ormonde Jayne and is exclusively available in the London boutiques, Harrods & now Senteurs d’Ailleurs in Brussels. You will find you your signature scent by guiding you through the smells of 21 raw ingredients from the 7 perfume families. The whole process of Perfume Portraits takes around 5 minutes if you are in a hurry and without the recommended blindfold to sharpen the sense of smell! It must also be pointed out that it is completely complimentary and no Ormonde Jayne purchase is needed before or after, just an open mind!
The Haute Parfumerie is next door to the Haute Cosmétique and stocks products from Kiehls, Aesop, La Mer, Dyptyque Art de Soin and Eve Lom that are exclusive to Senteurs d’Ailleurs in Benelux. The interior is white with a eyecathing gorgeous exotic fish tank!
And now Senteurs d’Ailleurs has now just launched its Institut with a fantastic range of beauty treatments, facials & massages from Eve Lom, La Mer & Dermatalogica that make you want to spend the day cocooned in one of the stunning treatment cabins.
And with all this beauty I crossed over Avenue Louise to the magnificent Conrad Hotel to see preparations for the Accessible Art Fair that opens this coming weekend. Fifty acclaimed artists from around the world chosen by a panel of judges. A few artists really caught my eye including Lea Shabat & Clemens Briel but it’s worth seeing if you are in Brussels and it is literally opposite Senteurs d’Ailleurs.
I was also lucky enough to catch the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Violin Concerto with Julian Rachlin performing at the Bozar. It was an amazing opportunity to hear this brilliant violinist who won the European Young Musician of the Year competition age 12. Rachlin tours all over the world so if you ever get a chance to hear him, he really is one in a billion!
And Ormonde Jayne’s work was done in Brussels after stopping at Pierre Marcolini’s pretty chocolate boutique on the way back to stock up on some Tonka Bean Truffles!
Tomorrow Ormonde Jayne’s new Solid Perfume launches in the Mayfair & Sloane Street boutiques and from the online boutique. It leaves a subtle opalescent shimmer and is available in Ta’if, Tolu, Frangipani and Ormonde Woman and is a handbag essential you won’t want to do without.
British Beauty Blogger says:
“I’ve been trying the new Sugar Butter solid fragrance from Ormonde Jayne in my favourite OJ scent; Ta’If. If you haven’t discovered Ta’If it’s an oriental, spicy rose that defies the category really. I wouldn’t ever pick out an oriental or a spicy perfume – call me bland but I love a floral with a touch of exotic, but never an oriental! But this,… is bliss! The beauty of the Sugar Butter formulation is that there is no wait for the fragrance to reveal; no alcohol to disperse and no settling in on the skin – the sugar butter seems to just melt on contact leaving in its wake a warm and heady perfume.”

Ormonde Jayne nominated for Walpole Award
posted on October 11th, 2011 by Ormonde Jayne in Perfume
Ormonde Jayne Perfumery has just received the exciting news that it has been nominated for a Walpole Award. The category is ‘Best Emerging Luxury Brand’ and the annual Walpole Awards for Excellence will take place on 14th November 2011 at the Banqueting House, Whitehall and it’s a great reason to open the Champagne this afternoon!

It is a great honour and we are all celebrating in the boutiques! The 2010 winner of the ‘Best Emerging Luxury Brand’ category was one of my favourite designers Erdem whose gorgeous creations were the talk of London Fashion Week!
The Walpole Awards are held to honour individuals and companies who exemplify British excellence by their work in the luxury sector both in Britain and internationally and amongt the sixty illustrious judges are Lucia van der Post, Brent Hoberman, Gillian de Bono, Michael Ward, Stephen Bayley and Marcus Wareing.
Ormonde Jayne already won the Walpole’s ‘Brands of Tomorrow’ award in 2006 (with the aid of Champaca which was a great hit) which continues to be an invaluable help!
Fingers crossed for 14 November!
